Hugging each other in fear we sat silently in our tent. Peeking through the front door we saw Mr. Rigby quietly getting out of his tent. We shuddered upon realizing he had an ax in his hand. Reading Autoethnography situates autoethnographic insights within the context of two fundamental concerns of critical qualitative inquiry: justice and love. Through philosophical engagement, it gives close readings of written passages taken from leading autoethnographers and frames the philosophical project of autoethnography as one that is both political and interpersonal. It does this to highlight how autoethnographic lessons can allow us to think through how we may achieve a flourishing for all — something that is both related to justice as it pertains to the political, and when situations are in excess of justice, related to love as it pertains to feeling at home in the world with others. I was born in Roe, Arkansas, December 18, 1945. My wife Lee Ann was born February 11, 1945, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. My parents moved to Kalamazoo in 1953. Then in 1955 we moved to Galesburg, Michigan. Lee Ann and I attended Galesburg-Augusta High-school. We graduated together with the class of 1963. She attended College and graduated in 1964 with a nursing degree. I attended Michigan State University and was apart of the 1967 class with a business major. I then applied for a position with Fisher Body Division of General Motors and was hired in 1967 where I worked until 1974. God gave us four beautiful children. Kim was born September 16, 1966. Bob was born September 24, 1967. Karen was born November 28, 1968 and the last but not least was Scott born November 26, 1971. Mrs. Gray and I attended Hyles-Anderson College and graduated with the first four-year class in 1976. We moved to Bourbonnais, Illinois, to pastor the Faith Baptist Church for four years. In 1980 I was called to become the pastor of the Longview Baptist Temple of Longview, Texas. Kim, Bob, Karen, and Scott all graduated from Longview Christian Academy a ministry of Longview Baptist Temple. Bob, Karen, and Scott graduated from TEXAS BAPTIST COLLEGE. Bob married Kelly Queen on March 13, 1987. Kim married Mark Simmons on August 28, 1987. Karen married Tim Forgy on December 11, 1992 and Scott married Jenny Martin on July 2, 1993. Bob and Kelly have three children: DeAnna, Jordan, and R. G. Kim and Mark have two children Joe and Meagan. Karen and Tim have two children: Nick and Aly while Scott and Jenny have three boys in Scottie, Steven, and Phillip.

Sparks from the Smiddy tells the life story of David Wilson, a sixth generation blacksmith and world champion farrier (a craftsman who trims and shoes horses' hooves). The book includes details of David's memories of annoying his father as a child by nailing horse shoes to the smiddy floor, his first experience of trying to catch a horse, the hard work he put into learning his trade, along with picking up and running the family business. The story follows the highs and lows of David's earliest competitions through to his ultimate win at the 1985 World Championship in Calgary, Canada. And, it concludes with tales of the travel opportunities that his work and successes opened up to him, including meeting the Princess Royal in 1995. Told in a humorous yet modest style, and including 60 of David's photos, Sparks from the Smiddy sheds light on this previously unreported aspect of working and shoeing horses, helping readers to understand the skills of a farrier and giving a nostalgic look back over this important part of rural life.
