Within the shades of today's world, I have found Content and Freedom in words. For myself, the beauty of poetry is a very soothing Art Form and Therapy that I needed to express. I call this a purging of poetry because when I was literally allowed to finally embrace both pen and paper, I went crazy. The words exploded from me like fireworks. Once I started writing, I could not stop. The words poured from my pen like water. They were cleansing and very healing for me. Each and every word expressed released my inner spirit.With so much constriction in my past life, my writing helped bring out the inner me, the real me. Poetry became a part of my Healing Journey. Each piece contained in this book reflects all facets of my journey. Some Poems are very dark and some are very positive roads taken. I am a First Nations Cree Woman from the Samson Cree Nation in Hobbema, Alberta, Canada. Consequently, there are Poems that also reflect pride in my heritage, some which are very strong. Bottom line, I through my Poetry needed to be purged. I welcome you to take this journey with me, the journey of my release through the Poems contained within these pages.

Conjoining approaches from literary anthropology, the historiography of Anglo-Chinese relations, and perspectives on colonial trauma, it highlights the relative neglect of women’s stories in customary Chinese readings, colonial accounts, and an ancestral family record from 1800 to the present. Offering an alternative view of family history, this book links the body as a dwelling for assaults on the ability to breathe—through tuberculosis, opium smoking, asthma, and panic—with the physical home that is assaulted in turn by bombs, killing, intimate betrayals, and fatal respiratory illness. The COVID-19 “pandemic of breathlessness” serves as mnemonic both for state repression, and for the reprisal of historical fears of suffocation and dying. These phenomena converge under an analytic concept the author calls respiratory politics.

A funny thing happens to you when you get older. Maybe for the first time in your life you think about your mortality. With that newfound realization of the impermanence of human life, you might think about your actual mortal soul. In the last few years I have had that particular realization as have many others, I am sure, who also realized they had wasted their youth in the singular pursuit of pleasure and selfishness. I have even had the effrontery to let hurl from my mouth the outright denial of the existence of an all-powerful and forgiving God. With my acceptance of Jesus Christ as my personal savior and my attempts to align myself with the apparent will of God, I have moved on to an exploration and learning experience of scripture. I am a poet and am compelled to write about my experience and what I've learned. I am hoping that this book is acceptable in the eyes of my God. While many of these poems are influenced by the religious writings of thousands of years past, others are from my own personal inspiration and revelations. I hope you the reader will appreciate at least some of my work. It is the best I have to offer God and the reading public. I hope that both find it pleasing.
