A true story of life in Africa under extreme conditions where there’s nothing to depend on other than your wits and an ability to improvise. A man, his dog Major, and a small group of helpers trucked across seemingly insurmountable mountainous terrain laden with drilling equipment and supplies to survive off the land in isolation for months. Extreme danger and excitement—at times life-threatening—abounds, coupled with the beauty of nature and her wildlife. The author provides his readers with a slice of colonial life in the 1960s, describing progress through childhood, enduring army training, discovering pleasures of the opposite sex, exploring career options, and finally settling into what became a long career in exploration diamond drilling. It is also a story of love. Shortly after the contract in Ruangwa Valley, the author’s isolated and lonely life changed dramatically. He married a beautiful city girl who had never experienced camping, let alone the tough life in remote areas in the bush. Their two sons were born living under these conditions. The book ends as the young family leaves Zimbabwe, settling in Botswana. The sequel Scorched Sands of the Kalahari will tell the story of their adventures in that country.

You can conquer your fears and slay your dragons! Children are as much the hope for the future of humanity as this earth is the center of our existence. A belief in magic is the glue that keeps it all together. The Planet Shilough and their higher level beings, fairies and elves, have been watching our planet as environmental destruction, cynicism, and consumerism plague our world. Michael-a thirteen-year-old Vancouverite who lives in fear of bullies and pain from the tragic loss of his father-emerges as an unlikely hero. He is filled with wonderment as he explores Shilough and is schooled in higher laws. Plagued with insecurities, he begins to realize that the most powerful force in the universe is love. He learns of the sacred and eternal nature of all beings. He comes to understand that on a planet with no incongruity, the vibratory levels are so high, that anything is possible. The ways that Michael overcomes obstacles bent on his destruction-from a schoolyard bully on earth to a nine-headed serpent on Shilough-teach us powerful lessons. As Pancras, Chancellor to the Faerie Queen, explains to Michael, as he struggles with acceptance of his divine destiny, "The greatest battle that you will ever face is the one within your own mind. Conquer the dragons within, and you will never fear any dragons without." - In this "other world" exposé, could some of the methods that Michael uses to overcome his fears apply to us? - Could we harness other energy sources that cause less environmental destruction? - Could music play such a pivotal role in aligning our planet? - What lessons do we learn from the Cronusans? - What about life after death? - How can we heal our planet?

Around AD 116, with early Christianity under extreme pressure, Roman Emperor Trajan condemned Bishop Ignatius, of the Antioch church of Syria, to execution by lions in the Roman Coliseum, for Ignatius's refusal to recognize Trajan and other Roman gods as deities, and for proclaiming Yahweh, and his son, Jesus Christ Incarnate, the only true and living God. Trajan's highly decorated soldiers, led by Captain Maximus Aurelius, secured Ignatius on a year-long death march from Syria to Rome, chained to the soldiers daily, to humiliate and intimidate Ignatius and fellow Christians. Along their journey, Ignatius wrote seven encouraging letters to Christian churches, in some of which he figuratively referred to these soldiers as leopards, because of their cruelty. Ignatius's letters and his actions, expressing his love and forgiveness, even for those vicious soldiers and for Trajan, caused Aurelius and some of the soldiers, to begin to question the then commonly held Roman view of Christianity as a fanatical superstition, led by lunatics and followed by a band of atheist, and, therefore, to also question their traditional faiths in the gods of Rome. Most impressive about Ignatius to the soldiers, was not only Ignatius's embrace of death, but his belief that to die in faith in God is to gain eternal life with Him in heaven. Bitter conflicts arose among the soldiers over these matters, which exposed Aurelius's budding Christian faith to Roman authorities. In Rome, Aurelius's confession of faith in the God of Ignatius, and his rejection of Trajan's offers to publicly denounce Christ, resulted in Trajan ordering Aurelius's death in the Coliseum with Ignatius. Aurelius's faith is strengthened as he endured beatings, isolation and imprisonment with Ignatius, touching the lives of others, who become advocates for Christianity. In the Coliseum, this story imagined the favor of God showing up for Ignatius and Aurelius, in the form of miraculous happenings with the lion keepers, with the lions, and with Ignatius's and Aurelius's transformation into heavenly beings before the blood-sport-minded Roman Coliseum patrons. Though many believe in Christ through these miracles, Trajan refused to accept the sovereignty of Ignatius's God, and suffered his own excruciating death. At its core, this storyaEUR"though it depicts actual historical persons, places and events in fictional guiseaEUR"encompasses scriptural guarantees exemplifying the availability of the limitless power of the Holy Spirit, through love, its most precious fruit, to forgive and reach even the most hardened and resistant of men and women through God's redeeming Word, and of the reality of God's promise to believers of abiding comfort in this world, and of an awaiting home with Him in Heavenly Glory, a promise extending through the life and times of Ignatius, a real-life martyr, to each of us to this day.

This is the story of a young white leopard growing up in the most tempting time in history. She receives a dream from the Shepherd that tells her that she will "defeat the maned one with the voice of thunder." However, as she grows up her life becomes unstable and she begins to question her purpose. Stress and strife dominate her life, and eventually, doubt begins to rule her thoughts, allowing bitterness to envelop her heart. Dreams and visions, though, also dominate her mind as they foreshadow future events. As she tries to figure out each vision, heavenly signs also appear unto the white leopard, signs that she knows only come from the Lord of heaven and earth. Eventually, these visions come to pass. Four sore plagues — war, famine, death, and wild beasts — devastate a fourth part of the earth, changing the landscape of the world. In an attempt to restore peace and safety, the kingdoms of the earth come together to form a ten-kingdom coalition called the New Kingdom. With this New Kingdom comes new rules and laws that contradict the holy laws established by the Lord of heaven and earth. While most suspect nothing of the kingdom's true plans, the white leopard senses that the time of great tribulation is at hand. In order to survive, she must trust the Lord to bring her through all trials and show her the path for strength in fulfilling her purpose while also overcoming emotional bondages that have hampered her spiritual freedom.

The powerful shifter is as irresistible as he is terrifying, but his icy demeanor tells her to keep her distance. Alonzo knows better than to let himself get involved with someone like Evangeline. She doesn’t deserve the type of danger that follows him, or the threat of his Amur leopard. But even with his lean muscle and iron will, Alonzo isn’t strong enough to stay away from the one woman who can make him feel at peace. And when their secret lives draw a mortal threat, Alonzo unleashes the feral passion he keeps pent up inside himself.

This book refutes three traditional hypotheses which have dominated Old Testament scholarship this century: the claim that there were schools in ancient Israel; that in these schools a professional class of 'wise men' taught; and that their teaching consisted of the moral standards of the civil service.Professor Golka disputes the claim of Old Testament scholarship that biblical proverbs were literary works of art, much influenced by the civilisations of Egypt and Mesopotamia. By comparing biblical proverbs to those of tribal societies of Africa, he concludes that the proverbs of the Hebrew Bible derive from a tribal society - that of the Israel of the period of the Judges. In this ground-breaking work, Friedemann Golka reveals the extent to which the sources and results of social anthropology can be used in Old Testament scholarship to make significant new findings.
