Excerpt from Annual Register of the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD: October 1, 1919; Seventy-Fifth Academic Year, 1919-1920 The plan reported by the board was approved, and went into operation July The new organization provided for a course of seven years, the first two and the last two at the school and the three intermediate years at sea; The school was placed under the supervision of the Bureau of Ordnance and Hydrography, and its name was changed to the United States Naval Academy. The corps of professors was enlarged, the course was extended, and the system of separate departments with executive heads was fully adopted. It was provided that a Board of Visitors should make an annual inspection of the academy and report upon its condition to the Secretary of the Navy. A suitable vessel was attached to the academy as a practice ship, and the annual practrce cruises were begun. Excerpt from Annual Register of the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD: June 7, 1962, One Hundred and Eighteenth Academic Year An act of Congress approved on May 25, 1933, authorized the Superintend ent to confer the degree of bachelor of science upon all graduates from and after the-date of the accrediting of the Academy by the Association of Ameri can Universities. That association had placed the Naval Academy on its ap proved list ou October 25, 1930, and graduates commencing with the class of 1931 became eligible for the degree. By virtue of an act of Congress approved July 8, 1937, the Superintendent is now authorized to confer the degree upon all living graduates.
